Let's talk about Ai
There's a bloody elephant in the room, let's talk about it.
I want to get something out in the open before we go any further.
Because somewhere along the way you’ve probably formed an opinion about Ai, maybe even a resistance. And so before we build anything together, I want to be completely transparent with you.
Throughout this process you will be invited (Note: never obligated) to work with Claude as part of how you shape and express your message. Some of you will take that invitation with both hands. Some of you won’t. Both are completely fine.
But whichever camp you’re in right now, I’d like you to read this first, because I think it matters. And because I think the conversation most people are having about AI is missing the point entirely.

People get so caught up about the words
Oh my god, the words. The Words!
But the words don’t actually matter.
What matters is the message, and a message can be conveyed through many different mediums. Such as music, for instance.
Words are to writing, what notes are to music. Notes don’t make the song, the person with the inspiration for the song makes it. The person who spotted the notes that would do well together, joined the threads, and came up with a masterpiece.
What I mean to say, is that it’s the message and energy underpinning your words that actually matters, and that’s not something AI can ever replicate.
Not the way you see the world. Not the particular perspective. Not the thing you know in your body that nobody else knows in quite the same way. Not the lived experience that has shaped you into the unique human that you are.
That is yours. Completely and only yours. It comes from source. It comes from the deepest, most essential part of you. And it is the thing that your people are actually hungry for when they find you.
AI cannot generate that. It cannot fake it. It cannot replace it.
What it can do, when used consciously, is help you get it out.
The distinction that changes everything
Throughout Press Publish, you will be invited to work with Claude in a very specific way. Not as a thinking partner. Not as something that generates your ideas or decides what you believe or constructs your worldview for you.
Just as a structuring partner.
There is a profound difference between those two things.
Your thinking — the raw, unfiltered, honest, human thinking that comes from sitting with a question, from speaking your truth out loud, from years of living and learning and becoming — that is always yours. That is always the source material. That is always where we start.
What Claude does in this process is help you shape that material into something that works. That lands. That can be felt and understood by the people it’s meant for. It holds structure while you bring the soul.
That’s it. That’s the whole relationship.
You always have a choice
Every exercise in Press Publish that invites you to work with Claude also offers you the alternative. You can work by hand. You can journal, you can draft from scratch, you can shape every single word yourself without any AI involvement whatsoever.
If that’s what feels right for you, then do that. This is your process and your voice and your world.
But if the reason you’re hesitating is because AI feels like cheating, or like it will somehow dilute what you’re creating, or like using it means the words won’t really be yours, I want to gently offer you a different way of seeing it.
A word from a Gen X woman who has been here before
I grew up without the internet. Without digital, without phone, and even without colour TV. And then, suddenly, I had it. And everything changed.
I could have sat back and said this isn’t for me. I’m an internet-free zone. And in some parallel version of my life, maybe I did. But in this one, I learned. I adapted. I grew with it because I understood that the technology was a tool.
AI feels exactly the same to me.
We’re living through a technological shift as significant as the arrival of electricity, or the internet. And we have a choice about how we meet it. We can resist it from a place of fear — fear that it will make us obsolete, that it will homogenise everything, that it will swallow our authentic voice. Or we can learn to use it consciously. Deliberately.
In a way that amplifies the thing that makes us irreplaceable.
I know which one I’m choosing.
If you’re new to Ai
If you’re a midlife founder who is just beginning to step into your voice, then working through the Press Publish process will do something significant for you.
It will make you confident with AI in a way that feels empowering rather than threatening, because through the process of learning how to use these prompts — how to speak your truth into them, how to push back when the output doesn’t sound like you, how to recognise your own voice well enough to know when something is off — you will develop a skill and a confidence that will serve you for years.
You will learn to use AI as the thing in the background.
The structural support.
The scaffolding that comes down once the building is standing.
And what will be standing, is you.
So. Are you in?
If you’re an AI-free zone by genuine, considered choice. I respect that completely. Everything here can be done without it. You will not miss out.
But if you’ve been holding AI at arm’s length because it felt scary, or because you weren’t sure it was your kind of thing, or because nobody had explained it to you in a way that made sense…
Welcome. You’re in exactly the right place.
Your message is waiting to be heard.
Let’s get it out into the world. 🌿
Just press publish.

A little about me
Hi, I’m Lucy. I spent twenty years in corporate before walking away to build work that was actually mine. What I discovered on the other side (about energy, alignment, and what it means to express yourself honestly in business) is what I guide from now.
I’m a brand, web and messaging designer working at the intersection of identity, brand energetics, and soulful expression - helping founders build a presence that feels as true on the outside as it does on the inside → Fresh Leaf Creative
Press Publish is the rolled-up-sleeves, hair-in-a-topknot version of its sister publication The Business of Becoming — where you’ll find musings on creative expression, anti-hustle marketing, building a sustainable brand ecosystem, and returning to your natural rhythms → The Business of Becoming
Need a little more support?
If you’d like some creative and energetic direction to help get your Substack world off the ground, I offer a Substack World Creative Direction Session for founders who want a designer’s eye on their identity decisions → Drop me a DM.

What a great article. The resistance to the use of AI becomes tiring. You have offered a fresh perspective that inspires us, rather than shaming us for using it. What I experienced with Claude as my structure in really getting to the heart of what my work is phenomenal.🥰
I have lots of opinions about AI…. If you’re interested to learn more about how I use AI to help me with trauma recovery, I offer this recent interview / essay:
